Itinerary

  • On the first day of your Kilimanjaro trek, you will be picked up from your hotel at around 8:00 am and transferred to the Lemosho gate, located on the western side of Kilimanjaro.
  • After completing the necessary registration process, you will begin your ascent through the Lemosho glades, a beautiful, forested area filled with towering trees and lush vegetation.
  • The trail is relatively easy, and you will be able to enjoy the scenery as you hike for approximately four hours to reach Big Tree Camp, where you will spend the night.

  • The second day of your trek will take you across a plateau of grassy moorland and heather scattered with volcanic rock formations.
  • You will pass through the Shira Plateau, which offers stunning views of Kibo Peak floating on the clouds.
  • The trail is moderate in difficulty, and you will be able to enjoy the scenery as you hike for approximately seven hours to reach Shira 2 Camp, where you will spend the night.

  • On day three, you will continue your trek across the Shira Plateau, which offers some unusual views of Kibo.
  • The trail is relatively easy, and you will be able to enjoy the scenery as you hike for approximately five hours to reach Moir Camp, where you will spend the night.

  • The fourth day of your trek takes you down to the start of the Great Barranco, a huge ravine.
  • You will then exit via the Great Barranco Wall, which divides you from the southeastern slopes of Kibo.
  • The trail is steep but not technically difficult, and you will be able to enjoy far-reaching panoramic views as you hike for approximately seven hours to reach Barranco Camp, where you will spend the night.

  • On day five, you will descend into the start of the Great Barranco before climbing steeply up from Karanga Valley to reach Karanga camp.
  • From here, you can go for a mid-afternoon acclimatization trek up to around 4200m before returning to camp for dinner and overnight.

  • The sixth day of your trek takes you across desolate scree slopes with no vegetation around.
  • The trail is tough and steep, made more difficult by the altitude. You will reach Barafu camp at around 4640m in time for dinner and an early night's sleep before starting your summit night trek in the middle of the night.

  • On day seven, you will wake up around 11 pm or midnight and be served hot tea and biscuits before starting your summit night trek up Kibo at around 24:00.
  • The trail is steep and slow, but with momentum and determination, you can reach Stella Point (5739m) by dawn.
  • From here, it's another 156 meters of altitude to walk around the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5895m), which marks your successful ascent of Kilimanjaro.
  • After reaching Uhuru Peak, you still have an eleven-kilometer descent down to Mweka camp (3100m), which takes approximately five hours.
  • Mweka camp is situated in the upper part of the rainforest zone and offers a welcome relief from the high-altitude environment that you have been acclimatizing to for several days.

  • On your final day on Kilimanjaro, you will trek down from Mweka camp through lower Rainforested slopes back to Mweka gate (1640m).
  • Along the way, you can enjoy stunning views of Kilimanjaro's lower slopes before being presented with official certificates at Mweka gate - green for those who reached Stella Point and gold for those who reached Uhuru Peak.
  • After completing your descent from Kilimanjaro, transportation will be provided back to your hotel in Moshi with time for tipping your trekking crew before departure.
