FAQs

  • Some historians say that the answer goes back to Ancient Egyptian religion and their belief in an afterlife. Because they believed in life after death, the bodies of important Ancient Egyptians were frequently mummified and placed into tombs. Mummification was a process that preserved the body, with the idea that the deceased person could use it again in the afterlife. The early tombs of Ancient Egypt were rectangular brick structures with an underground chamber. Bodies of royalty and important officials were placed in a coffin called a sarcophagus, and then the sarcophagus was placed into the underground chamber. Above ground, there was a separate chamber for holding food and drink for use by the deceased person in the afterlife. This chamber was also used to make offerings to their gods. During the Old Kingdom of Egypt's history, about 4,500 years ago, there was a limited time when the pharaohs' tombs were built in the shape of large pyramids, such as the ones seen in Giza .

  • The Egyptian Museum in Cairo houses a vast and extensive collection of artifacts, mummies, coffins, stones, ancient belongings, and even types of food that were buried with the kings before death for use in the afterlife.

  • Cairo Perched high upon a steep slope is the historical Saladin Citadel, one of the most elegant fortresses in the Middle Ages, offering a bird's-eye view of Old Cairo.

  • Karnak Temple is over 2,000 years old. The Karnak Temple complex spans about 200 acres and was a work in progress for about 1,500 years. New Kingdom pharaohs such as Hatshepsut, Thutmose III, Seti I, and Ramses II made significant contributions to the complex during their reign.

  • The Edfu Temple, also known as the Court of Offerings, is a remarkable ancient Egyptian temple located in Edfu, Egypt. The temple features a notable hypostyle hall, which consists of 12 columns that support the roof. This hall is a grand architectural marvel.
  • At the end of the temple lies a sanctuary, which houses a niche containing a statue of the god associated with the temple. This sanctuary is surrounded by 12 rooms, adding to the temple's intricate design and layout.
  • The Edfu Temple is renowned for its well-preserved condition and its significance in ancient Egyptian religious practices. It stands as a testament to the architectural and artistic achievements of the time.
